Rendering and plastering beads are mainly used for the protection of edges of the surface being plastered. They are basically vertical mouldings used during plastering and rendering to reinforce the plaster or render.

It would be difficult to perform rendering and plastering on edges without the beads. The result would be a very weak edge that would be easy to crack or break off. The beads, which are usually made of galvanised iron and a strip of metal lath, reinforces the strength of the render or plaster. At the same time, they make it easier for the render or plaster to stick to the surface.
